Noche de Parranda

This is the typical Mexican Mariachi, happy with himself, and drinking, but not alcohol. That makes him interesting.

Isolation or Fragmantation

This drawing represents the harsh division between the indigenous class in Mexico and the rest of the society. A typical farm woman is looking outside the window and you can see the outside reflected on the mirror.

This is the logo for El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant. I was looking to give the restaurant an image that would reflect the richness found in the culture of the area of Jalisco, Mexico. The logo has a laid back style, combined with a personalized image of the restaurant's founder. The rope around the icon reflects the typical colors of the flag, red, white and green. And the big sombrero, shirt and handkerchief complete the style.

Gabrielas Mexican Restaurant

This is the process of how I created the logo for Gabrielas Mexican Restaurant in Delta, Colorado.
The place is very well known by it's great service and food, so I had to think about how to make a logo that would reflect both.

The owner is always there and she is very popular among the people, so I had to grab some of her personality to create something unique that serve the purpose.
I took several pictures of her and started by sketching out some ideas of how to use the Mexican Style, especially from the center of Mexico
mixed with the personal Gabriela's style.

Las Marias Restaurant

This is a logo for Las Marias Mexican Restaurant, which specializes in Mexican food from the Northern part of Mexico. The logo symbolizes two women dressed with the typical vests of that part of the country where the Tarahumara indigenous culture is very present. The color palette used was red, brown, some yellow and green. I did some sketches first to come up with the concep of what it would be, and I also explored the typography.

GH Belleza Logo

This is the logo that I designed for GH Belleza, a hair and beauty salon. I started with several sketches of different possible solutions to the problem. I wanted to design a logo that would take into consideration a broad target audience in the area. But I also wanted to design something that would give the business an elegant and sophisticated image. So this is what came out as the final proof for the logo, a figure looking to the left side with her hair waving on the air, and a small fine, and wavy line below that would symbolize a fine hair. The font has the perfect shape, exactly the one I was looking for.

Random objects at the control room

These are two different things compared and drawn simultaneously. To the left we can see a chair, which is occupied by a coat. Now, it's interesting that a big, solid and comfortable chair
can be holding a simple light weight, piece of clothing. The arms seem like if they were protecting it and the chair seems like it's embracing it.
To the right we have a simple shelf, which is used to hold CDs. It seems like if it was all Gospel music, and it was somehow suspended on the air. The little shelf is also holding the CD cases which are light weighed and made out of plastic. It's interesting that both structures seem to be protecting something; two different things made out of different materials, and isolated from eachother. Nice comparison.

Buena comparacion.

Radio Control Room at KAFM

This is the radio control room at KAFM, viewed from the guest seat. Here we can see the microphones hanging and also the CD players from the side. There's also a cup with some
pencils in it. It's hard to see the control board because it's facing the other side but we can see what time it was. I like this sketch because it takes me from my artistic world to draw some of my other career's hobbies, the Radio.

Walking around Main Street

I found this strange view of this tree and you can see through it across the street. I like this drawing because I was able to use plenty of organic forms, nature forms, etc. And if we compare it with the background which is composed of man made metal structures, we can find the opposite. I like making these comparisons.

Brochure-Menu Design

This brochure was designed for Celestial Water Co. The challenge was to make the menu for the new smoothie bar available in a portable way, and at the same time to promote the company and its other products. So I took pictures of their products and cut them out to place them on a very nicely designed background. I used fruity shapes such as bananas, watermelons, orange slices, etc, on a very bright yellow color. I wrote the name of the items, their flavors and price right next to their picture. And the problem was solved. A portable menu in a brochure.

Nature VS Manmade

This is a comparison between a tree and a building viewed from the same angle. Both are tall and strong structures, but they are made differently. A tree is born from the soil and is a living organism. A building is a big structure made out of metal and other materials, which is used for many purposes. This is just a thought about how far we have come as a civilization, that we can build high structures and many things like that. But sometimes we forget that most of our main ideas and elements come from our mother nature.

A Cafeteria

This is a sketch of a cafeteria, I made it while I was sitting outside. I visit this place often and I wondered how it would look in sketch, so here it is. I specially like the detail and shadows.

The Grand Mesa

This is a beautiful sketch of the Grand Mesa. I did this sketch while I was up there, and the view is just amazing. For me as an artist, to be in contact with nature is highly inspirational.

GH BELLEZA Promotional Piece

This is a promotional piece for GH Belleza Hair & Beauty.   The logo is on the top left corner followed by the promotional message, the bottom part displays more details and contact info.  The picture was taken with an SLR Film Camera, in a close up shot.  The idea was to promote the service using two brushes and some color laying on a mirror, and the reflection of the blinds gives the mirror a three dimensional feel. I was able to catch the sunlight reflected on the brushes.  The color scheme used was blue, violet, some brown, and white.  The info is written on a white background to make it legible and readable.   The image is copyrighted by owner.

Inspiration in a foam cup

I found this foam cup outside my house, it looks like if someone had been playing with it after drinking from it. I found it inspiring, so I took it inside and took some pictures of it.  The most interesting thing about it is that, eventhough the bottom part is scratched and broken, the cup still stands up.

My portfolio website

Finally, I'm done with my portfolio website! And it was about time, it took me almost six months but I got it ready. The purpose was to give it a very elegant and sophisticated look.  I used the background with a gradient to make it look like it's floating in space and the buttons reflect the light that seems to be coming from above. I tried to make it as simple to use as possible, and I added flash animations to make it dynamic. The site is centered on the browser window.  I took all the pictures specifically for this site using my photography skills. I also made a Spanish language version of the complete site for a broader audience. I used dark colors on the overall design because it looks great on portfolio websites, and the sitemap buttons have colors that work well together.  My website is hpmgraphicdesign.com .  Hope you enjoy it!
